Last night was such a wonderful experience. My children and I were able to watch the Perseids Meteor shower from our backyard. We were a little down hearted the day before because it was so cloudy that we couldn't see anything at all. However, last night was not so bad and it was such a wonderment to view. We got our sheets and pillows and laid down on the trampoline with our eyes heavenward. We saw about 10 shooting stars in a 45 minute time frame. Here are a few facts that we learned regarding the Perseids
- The Perseids Showers (and all meteor showers)happens when debris from a passing comet gets left behind in that objects orbit around the sun,. When earth passes through it, the pieces get burned while coming through our atmosphere.
- Every year the earth passes through the debris of the Swift - Tuttle comet. And because the shooting stars appear to be pointing outward from the constellation Perseus they are called the Perseids.
- The Comet from which the Perseid showers come from was first discovered in 1862, and then a second time in 1992, 130 years later! The next sighting is expected in 2125.

According to what we have read, the next big meteor shower , the Geminids is set to begin in mid-December. We have already marked our calenders!
Wonderment & Amazement ...We were reminded of the scripture that says "You are worthy , Jehovah, even our God, to Receive the glory and the honor and the power, because you created all things, and because of your will they existed and were created." *Revelation 4:11*
